Our 2016 Carvers
MAL McEwen, Cleveland, GA
MAL McEwen is a north Georgia chainsaw artist with family roots in the area dating back to 1746. He has always enjoyed working with his hands and creating works of beauty, whether it be as a mechanic, machinist or trim carpenter.
MAL picked up a chainsaw for the first time in 2002 and has never looked back. What started as a hobby has transformed into a livelihood, with commissioned projects coming from as far away as California.
Known as the MALhatter (for the colorful top hat he wears while performing), MAL has carved from Florida to Pennsylvania to Washington State and many points in between.
Highly respected in the United States, In 2013 MAL truly became a International Artist when he was invited to Carve in both the English Chainsaw Championship in Manchester England then the following week at the Scotish Chainsaw Championship in Carbridge Scotland. A very proud moment in MALS Career was when he won best new carver in Carbidge with his Gnome Riding a Dragon Fly.
Rod Green, Fl
Award Winning Florida Chainsaw Artist, Rod Green has carved in all 48 continental US States. With over 20 years experience, Rod has competed in many Chainsaw Carving Competitions over the years making him one of the Elite Chainsaw Carvers in the US.
Always loving the outdoors, Rod was destined not to be confined to an office job. In his early 20s, Rod started and ran his own Arborist company for many years in Central Florida. Loving competition, Rod enjoyed competing in Lumberjack contests. Winning or placing in the Carving part of the contest, it was not long before Rod was asked to join one of the Elite Chainsaw Carving Groups in the US, which started his full time Chainsaw Carving career.
Giving back to his community, Rod has carved for All Children's Hospital, Gator Camp For Homeless Boys, Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, and Breast Cancer Awareness.
Troy Brazie, Fremont, GA
Troy has competed in several carving competitions and events throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States since he started chainsaw carving 10 years ago. Before moving to Gilmer County Georgia, Troy was a Woodstock Police Officer and was known as the Carving Cop.
He has donated many pieces to the City of Woodstock. His works can also be seen in businesses throughout Cherokee County.
Justin Bailey, Al
Born in Amory, Mississippi Justin traveled all over the south east as a child. His family settled in Calera, Alabama. Justin spent his high school years in Calera. He then joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17. His years in the military taught him a lot. This experience along with his southern heritage are evident in his works today.
In 2009 Justin was lucky enough to meet his wife Heather Bailey. Heather introduced him to a new way of expressing his creative side, Chainsaw Carving. Art took the lead in the couples lives and today they operate Woodlot Artisans LLC, as full time artists.
Heather Bailey, Al
Originally from Victorville, California, Heather's interest in art began when her mother, Grace Dowling, started carving when she was about 8 years old. It became part of her culture. As a family they spent a lot of time visiting other carvers, going to competitions and helping sell sculptures. Finally, after watching her for over a decade, Heather decided to try it out. She had an opportunity to work with America's top chainsaw artists and even did a four-year apprenticeship with an award winning carver.
After this she met her husband and while they were dating he tried it out. Heather was ecstatic to find out that he was artistic as well. The Bailey’s formed a company called Woodlot Artisans LLC just last year. With more than 15 years combined experience there isn't a whole lot that they can't do!
